So, this post might make you all sick...so sorry in advance. I just simply have had it! I need suggestions to a "miracle" drug, cream or something that will help with cracked heals. I know, nobody likes to discuss feet! But yesterday, I had quite the experience. I had a little crack in my heal that appeared and then over the span of a few hours it grew larger than an inch. I'm serious. I was barely able to walk around, so I was limping not trying to put weight on it. Now, keep in mind I had a pedicure only a few weeks ago, so I do think I keep up with the maintenance of my feet the best I can. So, with that being said, I returned home and Shandra (sorry Shan) she gave me this great idea so I thought. She said, "How about you put super glue on it?" I thought, "Hum..I think I just might try that!" So I hobbled the best I could down stairs to find my super glue. I told Jared what I was doing, and he raised a slight concern about it being an open wound and the possibility of an infection. Well, I was desperate so I really was tuning him out. I glued up my gaping wound and that was that. Within minutes I was saying, "Wow this is amazing!" I explained to Jared how I think I have found my new best friend. So I enjoyed the freedom of pain for about ten minutes. Then just as suddenly as the pain was gone, my foot was overcome with the most severe itching and throbbing pain. I found myself itching right above the crack. So for the next 2 hours, my foot began to swell leaving my foot aching and I was trying to hold back screams of complete agony. I know, it seems ridiculous to have had so much pain over something, but I have NEVER experienced anything like this. It didn't help that I had to be at a social event with new friends from Jared's work. I had about had it. Finally the bbq was over and I got in the car, I just had to let out a shriek of pain! The pain now was filling my entire leg up to my rear end! Seriously, I had no relief. It is hilarious to think of the mental games I was thinking...will they cut my leg off? And if they have to I really don't care, it hurts that bad!
So by morning, I woke up stepping onto my foot, realizing all the pain was gone. Oh, what a relief. But with that being said, I soon realized that my foot felt like it was releasing pressure. I looked down to my foot and it was...(This is the gross part!) oozing gunk. (I spared the details!) So now I am left with a leaky heal and no pain.
So needless to say, I will NEVER do this oh so perfect remedy again! I'm hoping to spread the news to not try this. But I'm hoping to receive some advice and tips on how to cure this oh so disgusting thing! Again, sorry for sharing such a disturbing story!!! :)

Di,
So sorry to hear about your foot, I do have to say that Shandra was on the right track (drs do often use a special type of glue to close up wounds) I think that you had an allergic reaction to the superglue (but you know that). Anyway you can try soaking it in baking soda and water (you know like for chicken pox). it will help relieve some of the inflammation and should help ease the oozing, also it should help to soften your skin to prevent cracks in the future. good luck!
I probably can't do anything about the crack and oozing but I just recently bought the ped-egg (as see on TV) from walmart and I know it is just a "foot-file" but I have already liked the results I have seen in the dryness of my heals... But that is before you get a huge gash.
ps. cute blog!!!
Ouch! and ewww! I just hope this doesn't effect your ability to play basketball. I expect to see you there tomorrow morning!
Yea, I heard PedEgg is great. Also shower at night, or just wash your feet, cover them in the thickest cream you have and sleep with socks on---or jsut start wearing socks and shoes....this is a summer problem!
I agree with the other comments and have some more ideas. We always used to soak our feet or hands in hot water with Epson Salts, or just plain hot water, to heal infections like this. Also, like Beaner's Mom said, put something like Neosporin on the crack and wear socks to bed to protect the wound and to keep the sheets clean. After the crack closes up, a good cream to soften dry heels long term is Jergins Intensive Care cream or lotion. But the best remedy for very dry or chapped skin is good old Bag Balm. Farmers use it to keep their cows' udders soft (thus the term bag balm) but find that it also keeps their dry, chapped hands soft. If you don't find it at a place like Walgreens, you can buy it at IFA in Riverton. It's greasy, but it works well. I would like to know if you or any of your readers try it.
I have three words for you! Cloes toed shoes! I had two really bad cracks at the begining of the summer so under the suggestion of my doctor, I stoped wearing my flip flops and bought some "more to them shoes" just ballet flats, but it worked! Haven't had a crack in my foot since!!
